Make the cut

How to trim a podcast video into a complete clip

Trim the beginning and end of a podcast video with precise timestamps. Keep a complete thought and check the rendered MP4 for clean boundaries.

To trim a podcast video, choose one continuous passage, set its start and end, then listen across both boundaries. The opening should identify the subject and the ending should finish the answer. In CastCuts, each selected excerpt must be 1–90 seconds long.

Open a source you can edit

Upload your video recording or import a permitted video link, then wait for the episode to become available. Keep your original file. Open the clip studio and locate the passage by listening or reviewing the available timed transcript. Suggestions can provide a starting point for English recordings, but you decide whether the proposed boundaries preserve the idea.

Move the boundaries one sentence at a time

Set the start where the subject becomes understandable. If the first words are ‘because of that’, listen backward for the missing reference. Move the end past the completed answer without including the next unrelated question. Check that the final sound is not cut off. This creates a continuous excerpt; it is not a multi-track editing timeline for assembling separate sentences.

Preview the actual export

Choose fixed crop or full-frame layout and review any headline or captions. Render and play the result from the beginning and near the end. A timestamp that looks right while reading may still cut a breath or reveal a camera change. Adjust and render again if needed, then download the MP4 before the episode’s 24-hour retention window ends.

Move the start to restore a missing reference

Illustrative example. The people, recordings and results described here are fictional.

A fictional rough cut begins at 12:14 with ‘That is why I prepare it in advance.’ Moving the start to 12:09 includes ‘I write one follow-up question before the interview.’ The second version tells a new viewer what ‘it’ means. The extra seconds make the clip more understandable without adding an introduction.

Read the first line without the full episode. If its subject is missing, move the start or choose another passage.

Check before you finish

  • No word is clipped at the beginning or end.
  • The first sentence has an understandable subject.
  • The downloaded file contains the intended continuous passage.

Practical questions

Can I remove a pause from the middle of the clip?

The current CastCuts editor selects one continuous excerpt. It does not splice separate passages or automatically remove pauses and filler words. Use a different excerpt or an editor with internal cuts when that is required.

Does trimming change the original recording?

A rendered clip is a separate output. Keep your own original recording; CastCuts source storage is temporary.

Use this workflow in CastCuts

Start with an uploaded recording or permitted video link

CastCuts selects continuous 1–90 second excerpts and exports 9:16, 720 × 1280 H.264/AAC MP4 files. Automatic transcription and transcript-based suggestions support English and require review. Free exports include CastCuts branding; Pro removes it from new renders for $9 USD/month, with the same processing and storage limits. Episode media is retained for 24 hours. Keep your originals and download finished clips before expiry. Publishing is manual.
