Keep a podcast clip in context by listening before and after the proposed cut. Preserve the question, conditions and qualifications that determine what the speaker means. If those details cannot fit in a clear short excerpt, choose a different moment.
Listen beyond the selected timestamps
Read or play the surrounding exchange before deciding a quote stands alone. Check who ‘we’, ‘they’ and ‘that’ refer to. A sentence may be a hypothetical example, a quotation of someone else or a view the speaker rejects in the next sentence. Automatic highlight suggestions identify candidate passages; they do not verify facts or certify that an excerpt preserves context.
Protect conditions and negatives
Words such as ‘not’, ‘sometimes’ and ‘for this project’ can change the meaning of the whole answer. Keep them in the selected speech and correct transcription errors that remove them. Do not rely on a title or description to add a condition missing from the video. When a necessary explanation is too long, use a different continuous passage.
Check attribution and the headline together
Identify the actual speaker and make sure a reaction shot does not imply someone else is talking. Compare the headline with the completed answer, not just the most dramatic line. Keep any guest review or permission process outside CastCuts and complete it before publishing. The editor does not provide a guest approval workflow or automatic factual verification.
A condition changes the advice
Illustrative example. The people, recordings and results described here are fictional.
Fictional source: ‘For a short internal update, we do not script every sentence. For a public announcement, we review the wording carefully.’ A clip titled ‘Never script your videos’ misrepresents that answer. Keep the internal-update condition and use a headline such as ‘When this team uses a lighter script’.
The clip, headline and post description should all express the same level of certainty as the source.
Check before you finish
- Surrounding sentences do not reverse the excerpt’s meaning.
- Conditions, negatives and attribution remain accurate.
- The title does not generalize beyond the speaker’s claim.
Practical questions
Are automatic suggestions safe to publish without review?
Review every suggestion against the source. Transcript-based selection can miss context, transcription errors and speaker intent.
Can a disclaimer in the post fix a misleading cut?
Choose an accurate excerpt first. Viewers may encounter the video without seeing its full post description, so essential meaning belongs in the clip.
Use this workflow in CastCuts
Review suggested moments against the recording
CastCuts selects continuous 1–90 second excerpts and exports 9:16, 720 × 1280 H.264/AAC MP4 files. Automatic transcription and transcript-based suggestions support English and require review. Free exports include CastCuts branding; Pro removes it from new renders for $9 USD/month, with the same processing and storage limits. Episode media is retained for 24 hours. Keep your originals and download finished clips before expiry. Publishing is manual.
