Work through a recording

Turn a livestream replay into clips that make sense later

Repurpose a completed livestream recording into short clips by resolving chat references, removing waiting time and keeping complete answers.

To make clips from a livestream replay, start with the completed recording and choose a passage that remains useful after the live session. Keep the question, answer and any referenced screen content together. Remove the need to understand the chat or wait for a live response by choosing clearer excerpt boundaries.

Start from the completed recording

Save an authorized copy after the live session ends and check its audio and video before uploading. CastCuts works with recorded sources; ongoing live streams are not supported for import. A permitted public YouTube replay may be importable as an individual video, but availability can depend on the source and network. Keep the original file as a fallback and as your lasting archive of the session.

Find answers that do not depend on unseen chat

During review, mark moments where the presenter repeats the audience question before answering. These often carry more context than replies beginning with 'yes, exactly'. Preserve the explanation of what a viewer asked without exposing a private name or message unnecessarily. When the presenter never states the subject, select another passage. An opening headline can introduce a topic, but it should not supply a question the speaker did not answer.

Separate useful explanations from live-session delays

Look for a continuous passage after screen sharing, connection checks and long pauses have finished. End after the practical payoff, before another chat question takes the conversation elsewhere. CastCuts renders one selected time range, so a passage with repeated internal interruptions may need another editor or a different moment. Keep a qualifier about a temporary offer or product version when it is necessary to understand what was said.

Review the clip from a replay viewer's perspective

Preview without watching the rest of the stream. Confirm the subject is clear, visible screens remain readable and the ending does not ask for a live action that has already passed. Review automatic English captions for usernames, terminology and numbers. Write a post that identifies the recorded session and points to a working replay when useful. Download the MP4 and publish it manually; CastCuts does not clip or post live.

A replay answer with the question included

Illustrative example. The people, recordings and results described here are fictional.

During a fictional live drawing session, a presenter reads, 'How do you decide which detail to leave out?' and demonstrates simplifying a leaf. A 57-second excerpt begins with that repeated question and ends after the simpler shape is visible. The editor uses full-frame presentation to retain the drawing. A later request to vote in the now-closed chat poll stays outside the cut, and the post describes the video as an excerpt from the recorded session.

The finished clip helps someone who never saw the chat or attended the live session.

Check before you finish

  • The source is a completed recording with usable audio and video.
  • The subject is understandable without the original chat history.
  • The excerpt excludes unnecessary waiting and expired live instructions.
  • The exported video and replay destination have been reviewed and saved.

Practical questions

Can I create clips while my livestream is still running?

This workflow starts after the session has finished. CastCuts does not provide live clipping and rejects ongoing livestream imports. Use a completed authorized recording.

Should I keep a viewer's chat question in the clip?

Keep the substance when it makes the answer understandable. Prefer a passage where the presenter repeats it aloud, and follow your existing process for handling personal details and permitted use.

What if a livestream answer contains several long pauses?

Choose another complete moment or use a separate editor for internal cuts. Do not suggest CastCuts removes every pause or assembles nonadjacent answers automatically.

Use this workflow in CastCuts

Prepare short clips from a permitted completed video

CastCuts selects continuous 1–90 second excerpts and exports 9:16, 720 × 1280 H.264/AAC MP4 files. Automatic transcription and transcript-based suggestions support English and require review. Free exports include CastCuts branding; Pro removes it from new renders for $9 USD/month, with the same processing and storage limits. Episode media is retained for 24 hours. Keep your originals and download finished clips before expiry. Publishing is manual.

Make a clip from your own recording

Choose one useful passage, review the result and download your MP4.
