Choose a podcast story passage that includes enough setup to understand the situation, one turning point and an outcome. Trim unrelated introductions while keeping the detail that explains why the outcome matters. If the story cannot stand alone, select a smaller event within it.
Choose one event rather than a whole biography
A guest’s career story may span ten minutes and several changes of direction. Look for a smaller incident: a question they were asked, a failed first attempt or a decision with a visible consequence. Identify who is involved and what they wanted. You need enough setup for the incident to make sense, without retelling every earlier stage.
Keep the detail that causes the turn
Do not remove the fact that explains the change just because it comes before the most memorable line. A mistake needs its cause; a surprising result needs the action that preceded it. Choose a continuous 1–90 second passage in CastCuts. The editor does not combine distant sentences into a reconstructed story or generate missing footage.
Let the ending resolve the opening
The outcome may be a practical lesson, a changed decision or an unresolved question the guest clearly acknowledges. Preserve that actual ending. Avoid adding a headline that promises a dramatic transformation when the story only illustrates a small improvement. Review names and dates in captions, and watch for a crop that hides a gesture essential to the story.
A small story with a complete arc
Illustrative example. The people, recordings and results described here are fictional.
In a fictional interview, a host describes arriving with twenty scripted questions, hearing an unexpected answer and putting the list aside to ask one follow-up. The result is a clearer conversation. The clip can include that event and outcome without covering the host’s entire career or claiming that prepared questions are always unhelpful.
Name the event and its consequence in one sentence before setting the timestamps.
Check before you finish
- A new viewer can identify the situation.
- The turning point and its cause remain together.
- The story reaches its actual outcome before the cut ends.
Practical questions
Should I stop before the ending to create suspense?
An excerpt can invite viewers to the full episode, but it should still deliver what its headline promises. Avoid withholding the only useful explanation from a clip presented as a complete story.
Can CastCuts add B-roll to the story?
The current workflow edits a passage from your source recording. It does not supply B-roll, assemble multiple shots or generate replacement scenes.
