Make it readable

Turn a conference talk into short clips with the slide context intact

Find complete lessons in a conference recording, preserve essential slides and prepare short talk excerpts that make sense beyond the event audience.

A conference talk clip should explain one idea to someone who did not attend the event. Keep the spoken claim, its supporting example and any slide needed to understand it. Choose portrait framing only after checking which parts of the stage or screen the explanation depends on.

Select a lesson instead of an applause moment

Review the recording for passages that answer a practical question or clarify a difficult distinction. Applause, an event introduction or a joke may make sense in the room while leaving a new viewer without a takeaway. Mark the claim, explanation and ending before setting timestamps. If the speaker spends several minutes building essential background, select a smaller idea that can remain complete within a short excerpt.

Identify what the slide contributes

Ask whether the slide is decorative, an example or the evidence behind the claim. A fixed speaker crop can work for a passage that is clear from speech alone. Use full-frame presentation when the chart, object or diagram is essential, then test its readability at phone size. If an important axis label disappears, another passage or a closer source recording may be needed; portrait padding cannot recover missing detail.

Replace room-specific assumptions with a clearer selection

Listen for references such as 'as the previous panel said' or 'this number on the screen'. Include the sentence that identifies the subject or choose a self-contained answer. Preserve dates and conditions when they define a claim. Identify the speaker and event accurately in the accompanying post, using approved attribution. Add an opening headline that names the lesson rather than simply repeating the event title.

Review speech, source permissions and the exported frame

Use a recording you own or are permitted to reuse and confirm the event's approval process before distribution. Review English captions for specialist terms and audience questions. Full-frame mode can keep several speakers visible, but CastCuts does not automatically track the active speaker. Download the finished MP4, save its source timestamps and upload it manually to the chosen destination after checking the platform preview.

A slide-dependent lesson from a fictional talk

Illustrative example. The people, recordings and results described here are fictional.

A fictional accessibility conference recording includes a 64-second explanation of why a form's error message should identify the field and the next action. The speaker compares two forms on a slide. The editor tests full-frame presentation and finds the labels readable, then keeps the sentence explaining which form is being discussed. A separate joke about the venue is left outside the excerpt because it does not support the lesson.

The slide earns its space because the viewer needs it to follow the comparison.

Check before you finish

  • The selected passage teaches one complete idea beyond the event room.
  • Any essential slide labels or objects remain readable in the export.
  • References, speaker attribution and specialist captions are clear.
  • The recording's permitted use and publication review are established.

Practical questions

Can CastCuts automatically follow a conference speaker on stage?

Do not plan around automatic speaker tracking. Use a fixed crop when movement stays inside it, or full-frame presentation when the whole stage or several people must remain visible.

What if a slide is unreadable in a vertical clip?

Choose a clearer source recording or a passage whose explanation works without the small detail. A different excerpt is preferable to publishing a chart viewers cannot interpret.

Can I import a conference video from YouTube?

Permitted individual public YouTube links are supported, subject to source and network restrictions. Keep your own authorized video file as a fallback and do not assume a public link grants reuse permission.

Use this workflow in CastCuts

Preserve slides when turning a talk into short clips

CastCuts selects continuous 1–90 second excerpts and exports 9:16, 720 × 1280 H.264/AAC MP4 files. Automatic transcription and transcript-based suggestions support English and require review. Free exports include CastCuts branding; Pro removes it from new renders for $9 USD/month, with the same processing and storage limits. Episode media is retained for 24 hours.
