Make it readable

Turn a product demo into short clips without losing the demonstration

Select one product-demo action, preserve readable screen context and export a short vertical video that explains the action and its result.

A short product demo should show one task from its starting state to a visible result. Choose a recording passage with a spoken explanation and readable screen content. Before cropping a landscape demonstration into a portrait video, check that the cursor, controls and result remain understandable at phone size.

Choose one task with an observable result

List what the viewer should be able to understand after watching, such as changing a report filter or finding a saved item. Identify the beginning state, the action and the outcome in the source. A tour of five unrelated features is harder to follow as a short clip. Prefer a continuous passage that includes the result; CastCuts selects a continuous time range rather than assembling a sequence of separate screen captures.

Choose framing from the interface, not the speaker's face

A fixed crop can work when the relevant control and result stay in one area. Use full-frame presentation when the demonstration spans the screen or moves between a presenter and an interface. Neither choice makes tiny text automatically legible. Preview on a phone and choose another source passage if viewers cannot see the action. CastCuts exports a portrait canvas and does not promise animated zooms or automatic cursor tracking.

Make spoken references and captions agree with the screen

An explanation such as 'click here' needs the referenced control to remain visible. Keep the preceding label or identify the task in an opening headline without claiming extra functionality. Review automatic English captions for button names, settings and product terminology. Caption text should represent the speech accurately; use the accompanying post for additional instructions. Move to another excerpt when captions and a dense interface compete for the same viewing space.

Check the demonstration as a complete viewer journey

Play the exported MP4 from the start without remembering the full recording. Confirm that an unfamiliar viewer can tell what changed and why the result matters. Inspect the source for private messages, customer records or unpublished details before rendering. Keep your original demo and final export in your own storage. Upload the downloaded file manually and verify the destination's preview before publishing the demonstration.

A report filter that fits one excerpt

Illustrative example. The people, recordings and results described here are fictional.

A fictional inventory app demo includes a 55-second passage showing an unfiltered stock report, selecting one warehouse and reading the updated total. The editor chooses full-frame presentation because the filter and total sit on opposite sides of the screen. The headline reads 'Check one warehouse at a time'. When the export makes the total too small to read, the creator records a closer demonstration rather than claiming the portrait crop solves it.

A better source passage can be more useful than forcing a dense desktop interface into a narrow crop.

Check before you finish

  • The clip contains one task, its action and a visible result.
  • Required controls and labels remain readable in the exported file.
  • Captions match the narration and leave the demonstration visible.
  • The source and export have been checked for private information.

Practical questions

Can CastCuts create a product demo from screenshots?

Use an existing video recording with audio. This workflow trims a recorded demonstration; it does not generate a screen recording, animate screenshots or create a new product interaction.

Should I always crop a screen recording to fill the portrait frame?

No. A crop can hide the action or result. Compare a fixed crop with full-frame presentation and use the version that preserves understanding at the size viewers will actually watch.

What if the demonstration needs longer than 90 seconds?

Choose a smaller complete task or use a separate editing workflow for the full lesson. Do not remove an essential step just to fit CastCuts' 1–90 second excerpt range.

Use this workflow in CastCuts

Compare framing for a landscape product demonstration

CastCuts selects continuous 1–90 second excerpts and exports 9:16, 720 × 1280 H.264/AAC MP4 files. Automatic transcription and transcript-based suggestions support English and require review. Free exports include CastCuts branding; Pro removes it from new renders for $9 USD/month, with the same processing and storage limits. Episode media is retained for 24 hours. Keep your originals and download finished clips before expiry. Publishing is manual.

Make a clip from your own recording

Choose one useful passage, review the result and download your MP4.
