THE CREATOR’S EDITING DESK

How to turn a podcast into TikTok clips

Create a TikTok podcast clip: choose a standalone answer, trim the opening, frame the speaker, add a headline and review the MP4 before posting.

A full podcast explains the whole conversation. A TikTok clip needs one reason to keep watching. Start with an answer that solves a recognisable problem, reveals a useful mistake or tells a complete small story.

Pick an answer that works without the question

Listen for a concrete sentence rather than a long introduction. If the guest says “that changed everything”, keep the explanation of what changed. Avoid opening with an unclear pronoun or using a dramatic line that the rest of the clip does not support. A 25–45 second rough cut is a useful editorial starting point, not a platform rule.

Make the clip in CastCuts

  1. Bring a recording you can use

Upload an MP4, MOV or WebM with audio, or paste a direct HTTPS video-file link. A YouTube watch link is different: YouTube import is currently blocked on the public service. Keep your original file and respect your guest’s permissions.

  2. Set the start and end

Open the episode’s clip studio and select a 1–90 second passage. Start where the idea becomes clear and end after the payoff. Listen to the sentence before and after the cut so trimming does not change its meaning.

  3. Choose framing and text

Use a fixed portrait crop for a close-up or keep the full frame when two speakers, a slide or a whiteboard provide context. Add an opening headline. Editable on-video captions require an existing timed transcript; automatic transcription is not enabled publicly.

  4. Preview, export and upload

Review the rendered video with sound and once muted. Download the 9:16, 720 × 1280 MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. Upload it to the platform yourself; CastCuts does not publish or schedule posts. Check the platform’s current requirements before posting.

Give the moment a clear opening

Opening headline

Posting every day? Start with one useful idea.

Suggested post caption

One practical lesson from our conversation about building a consistent creative habit. What makes a recording worth sharing for you?

The headline names the subject and the post caption invites a relevant reply. Neither promises a result the interview cannot support.

Review it as a TikTok viewer

Watch the opening on a phone before adding your post description. Check that platform controls will not cover the speaker’s mouth or important words. Keep the original voice easy to hear, choose a cover that reflects the topic and describe the actual takeaway. Relevant topic words are more useful to a reader than an unrelated hashtag list.

Check before you publish

  • The first sentence names or clearly shows the topic.
  • The crop still makes sense when the camera changes.
  • The title and post description match the guest’s meaning.

Practical questions

Will the editor automatically find a viral moment?

Choose your own moment in the public editor. Automatic clip suggestions and free English transcription remain local previews. A useful hook, clear context and careful editing can improve a clip, but views and virality are not guaranteed.

Are captions the same as a post description?

No. On-video captions represent speech and need accurate timing. The post caption is the text you write when uploading to a social platform. CastCuts lets you edit existing timed captions; the sample post copy here is an editorial example.
