# Vertical video safe zones for podcast clips

> Check podcast headlines, captions and faces against social video controls. Use a practical preview process instead of a universal safe-zone template.

Keep essential faces, captions and headline text away from the edges and interface controls of a vertical post. Check the final video in the destination platform’s own preview. Safe areas vary between viewing surfaces, so a single pixel template cannot guarantee that every element will remain visible.

## Identify the layers competing for space

Your source may already include a speaker name, a slide title or a lower-third graphic. A portrait crop, opening headline and speech captions add more layers. List which details are essential before editing. A visually full frame is not useful if the viewer cannot see the person speaking or the diagram that explains the answer.

## Choose framing before adding text

Compare a fixed crop with full-frame layout across the complete excerpt. A crop can remove a source label; full frame may preserve it but make it smaller. Add a concise headline and choose caption size after deciding the composition. CastCuts does not provide a universal platform safe-zone overlay or automatic repositioning around every social interface.

## Use the destination preview as the final check

Upload the downloaded MP4 in the platform’s normal publishing flow and inspect its preview before posting. Look at the lower and side areas where descriptions, buttons or other interface elements appear. Check the cover separately if the platform offers one. When a required visual is obscured, revise the framing or choose another excerpt rather than assuming all viewers will see the same clean canvas.

## A slide label disappears under two different layers

Illustrative example. The people, recordings and results described here are fictional.

A fictional webinar excerpt has a key chart label at the lower edge. Full-frame layout preserves the chart, but large captions obscure the label. In the platform preview, interface text also overlaps that area. A better excerpt may be the presenter’s spoken explanation without the dense chart, with a shorter headline and captions that remain clear.

Check the source detail, your added text and the platform interface together.

## Check before you finish

- Essential faces and source text survive the chosen framing.

- The headline and captions do not obscure each other.

- The destination’s video and cover previews have both been reviewed.

## Practical questions

### Is there one safe-zone size for TikTok, Reels and Shorts?

Do not assume one fixed box covers every platform, device and viewing surface. Use current platform previews and leave comfortable space around essential details.

### Does a 9:16 export guarantee nothing will be covered?

No. Aspect ratio defines the video shape. Platform controls and preview crops can still cover or crop parts of the image.

## Use this workflow in CastCuts

CastCuts selects continuous 1–90 second excerpts and exports 9:16, 720 × 1280 H.264/AAC MP4 files. Automatic transcription and transcript-based suggestions support English and require review. Free exports include CastCuts branding; Pro removes it from new renders for $9 USD/month, with the same processing and storage limits. Episode media is retained for 24 hours. Keep your originals and download finished clips before expiry. Publishing is manual.
