# Podcast recording to clips: prepare, import and preserve your files

Prepare podcast recordings for clipping: export usable video, troubleshoot uploads and links, test playback and save finished files before expiry.

The reliable path from a recording to a clip is to preserve a master, obtain a complete video with audio, validate a working copy and test one representative excerpt. A recording application's sharing page is not the same as a media file. This path helps you distinguish source problems from upload, layout and export problems.

## Keep the original and identify the actual deliverable

A recording project may offer separate camera tracks, an audio mix, a composed video and a hosted viewer. Decide which version contains the picture and voices the excerpt needs. Download through the recording service's authorized workflow, then check the beginning, middle and end locally. CastCuts has no live connection that automatically synchronizes a provider's project or keeps a remote recording permanently available.

## Test the handoff before committing an editing session

A small trial can reveal a missing microphone, audio drift, a rotated camera image or screen text that becomes unreadable in portrait. Fix the source in the original editor when necessary and use its new timestamps consistently. Keep upload size, duration and account storage separate from clip duration. Pro removes CastCuts branding from new renders; it does not increase these preparation or retention limits.

## Before moving on

- The recording master is stored separately from the clipping service.

- A complete working video contains all voices and necessary visuals.

- A representative downloaded clip passes a local playback check.

- Final files, source timestamps and review notes are saved before expiry.
