# How to write post captions for podcast clips

> Write a social post description for a podcast clip: add episode context, describe the takeaway and choose one relevant next step.

A podcast clip’s post caption is the text you write alongside the uploaded video. Use it to explain the subject, credit the speaker appropriately and offer a relevant next step. It has a different job from on-video captions, which represent spoken words inside the clip.

## Add context the short video cannot carry

Open with the real topic rather than a generic demand to watch. Identify the guest or episode when that helps someone understand the source. If the excerpt depends on a condition, include it in the spoken cut; the post description can reinforce it but should not be used to rescue a misleading video. Keep quoted text faithful to the recording.

## Adapt the next step to the publishing destination

A viewer may want the full conversation, a useful resource or a chance to answer a specific question. Choose one of those actions. Check the destination’s current link behavior instead of assuming a pasted URL will be clickable in every surface. CastCuts exports a video file; you write the post text and choose links inside the social platform.

## Review the post and video as a pair

Play the final MP4 while reading the draft description. Correct mismatched guest names, episode references or promises. Use relevant subject terms naturally and remove an unrelated hashtag list. Save your final description beside the downloaded clip in your own storage so you can adapt it for another account without relying on temporary episode storage.

## A post description with one clear next step

Illustrative example. The people, recordings and results described here are fictional.

Fictional draft: ‘How do you get past a rehearsed interview answer? In this excerpt, our guest explains why one follow-up question can reveal a useful detail. What follow-up has worked for you?’ This is suitable only for a clip that actually explains that technique. A post promoting the full episode could replace the question with accurate episode information.

Choose a conversation prompt or an episode destination based on the purpose of this particular post.

## Check before you finish

- Post text adds context instead of merely repeating every caption.

- Guest attribution and episode references are accurate.

- The next step is relevant and works in the publishing platform.

## Practical questions

### Will editing post text change the on-video captions?

No. Post text belongs to the social post. Captions rendered into the MP4 are part of the video and require a new render if you change them.

### Can I reuse one post caption on every platform?

Start from the same takeaway, then review the audience, available links and post preview separately for each destination.
