# Google Meet recording to clips: download, review and edit

> Prepare an authorized Google Meet recording for short clips: download the video, check the recorded view and preserve presentation context.

By CastCuts · Updated 2026-10-26

Download the Google Meet recording through its authorized Google Drive access, inspect the saved video, then upload a supported copy to CastCuts. Choose one complete answer or demonstration from the recording. A meeting link or Drive viewing page is not the same as a video file, and this workflow does not connect your Google account to CastCuts.

## Get the saved recording through the organizer's access

Google documents Meet recordings in the organizer's Drive, with links available through recording email and eligible Calendar events. Recording availability depends on the account and administrator settings. Open the actual recording and use its permitted download option; ask the organizer if access is missing. Save a local copy and wait until it has finished downloading. Confirm permission to publish an excerpt separately from permission to attend or watch the meeting.

## Review what the file captured, not what you remember seeing

Google's help explains that the recorded view includes the active speaker and presented content, and that pinning a participant does not change the recording. Play the saved file before choosing a moment. A presenter may refer to a slide that is readable on a laptop but tiny in a portrait video. If the visual is necessary to understand the answer, keep the complete view or select a passage with a spoken explanation that stands alone. Do not assume an absent camera angle can be recovered in clipping.

## Turn a meeting answer into a public explanation

Meeting language often assumes shared history: 'the last version,' 'your account' or 'that figure on the right.' Choose a start that identifies the actual subject and retain qualifications that limit the answer. Remove private introductions externally when needed and review any presented names, customer information or documents. For an internal training session, agree on the exact passage with the content owner before publishing. Keep source timestamps and a clear note of the approved topic so a short answer cannot be mistaken for broader policy.

## Test slide readability and captions in the export

Upload an MP4, MOV or WebM containing video and audio within the displayed limits, normally 512 MiB and two hours. Select a 1–90 second passage and review available English captions. Inspect necessary slide text in the downloaded 720 × 1280 MP4 at phone size. If it is unreadable, prepare a clearer source externally. Save approved clips before the 24-hour expiry and publish manually.

## Fictional worked example: a training answer with a private slide

Illustrative example. The people, recordings and results described here are fictional.

A trainer wants a 51-second Meet excerpt explaining a planning method. The recorded slide contains a customer name. They prepare an external edit with an approved demonstration slide and confirm the excerpt with its content owner. The phone-size export explains the method without exposing the meeting's confidential context.

Download access, publication permission and a readable recording are separate requirements.

## Check before you finish

- The actual recording was downloaded through authorized access.

- The saved view includes the speaker or presentation the excerpt needs.

- Private information and implied meeting context have been reviewed.

- The approved clip remains understandable at its final display size.

## Practical questions

### Can I paste a Google Meet invitation into CastCuts?

A meeting invitation does not provide a downloadable video source. Obtain the saved recording with permission, download it and use the ordinary file-upload workflow.

### Why does the recording differ from my pinned view?

Google documents that pinning a participant does not change who appears in the Meet recording. Base your clip decisions on the downloaded file rather than your personal meeting layout.

### Will all Google Meet accounts have a recording to download?

No. Recording availability and access depend on Google's supported account editions, the meeting and administrator settings. Check the official guidance and ask the organizer about the particular recording.

## Use this workflow in CastCuts

[Prepare short clips from a recorded presentation](https://castcuts.co/webinar-to-shorts)

CastCuts selects continuous 1–90 second excerpts and exports 9:16, 720 × 1280 H.264/AAC MP4 files. Automatic transcription and transcript-based suggestions support English and require review. Free exports include CastCuts branding; Pro removes it from new renders for $9 USD/month, with the same processing and storage limits. Episode media is retained for 24 hours. Keep your originals and download finished clips before expiry. Publishing is manual.
